Indulgences (4th Week)
Dear Friends,
The devotion most closely linked to Lent is The Way of the Cross. When we pray this
devotion in a humble and contrite manner, we place ourselves alongside Jesus as He
endures the Passion. The Way of the Cross is held every Friday during Lent at 7:00 PM
at St. Wenceslaus.
A Plenary Indulgence is regulated by the following norms:
1 The stations of the Way of the Cross must be legitimately erected.
2 Each of the 14 stations is marked by a cross properly blessed and erected.
3 Usually, there is a pious reading at each station with some vocal prayers. However
nothing more is required than a pious meditation on the Passion and Death of the
Lord during the exercise.
4 A movement from one station to the next is required.
But if this exercise is made publicly and if it is not possible for all taking part to go in an
orderly way from station to station, it suffices if at least the one conducting the exercise
goes from station to station, the others remaining in their places. Those who are
"impeded" (homebound, hospitalized, sick") can gain the same indulgence, if they spend
at least one half hour in spiritual reading and meditation on the Passion and Death of Our
Lord Jesus Christ.
Make the Way of the Cross this Lent! It is one of the most
richly indulged devotions in the treasury of the Church!
